Wayne Rooney will return to Old Trafford as manager of the England side at this year’s Soccer Aid charity match, Manchester United have announced. United and England’s all-time leading goalscorer said he had been given ‘special dispensation’ from his current club, Derby County, where he is player coach, to take up the role. The annual star-studded game raises millions for the global children’s charity UNICEF. The 2020 match had been originally scheduled for Sunday, June 6. But United said that because of the coronavirus pandemic and the health and safety of all involved, a decision was taken to postpone the game until it was safe to reconvene.
